Dr. Paul Montoya Joins Oakland Mercy Hospital Staff
     Oakland Mercy Hospital is pleased to annouce that Dr. Paul Montoya has joined the hospital’s medical staff. Dr. Montoya, a family practice physician, will also see patients at the hospital’s clinics in Oakland and Tekamah and will share call with the hospital’s current staff.
     Most recently, Dr. Montoya was an Urgent Care physician in 2007 with Methodist Health Systems at that organization’s Omaha Urgent Care facilities. Also in 2007, he served as an Emergency Department physician and provided acute care services at several Nebraska hospitals, including Oakland Mercy Hospital.
“We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Montoya will be serving Oakland Mercy Hospital and its medical clinics starting August 1st,” said Tim Fischer, the hospital’s chief executive officer. “He is a well-educated, skilled physician who will serve our patients well.”
     A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Dr. Montoya is a graduate of Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha. He completed his family practice residency with the Lincoln Medical Education Partnership in Lincoln, Nebraska. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in Accounting from Troy State University Dothan, Dothan, Alabama.
     “I am excited to join the Oakland Mercy Hospital medical staff and be able to serve the community of Oakland,” said Dr. Montoya. “Tim Fischer, Dr. Martin, Pete Thiele, Michelle Niewohner, along with the rest of the staff, are an asset to the hospital and its clinics. I look forward to contributing to this excellent healthcare team.”
Before medical school, Dr. Montoya was an investment specialist with Charles Schwab & Company, Phoenix, Arizona, and a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, also in Phoenix. From 1983-1989, he was in the United States Navy and served on the USS Barb, a nuclear-powered fast attack submarine where he was an operator and chemist for the sub’s nuclear plant. Dr. Montoya was also a Navy diver.
     Dr. Montoya and his wife Celeste have two sons and a daughter, Tyler, 17, Jordan, 14, and Alexandra, 8. He enjoys spending time with his family, watching his children’s sporting activities and watching all sports.
