Oakland Mercy Hospital's Emergency Department is a rural facility equipped with the latest in Emergency Critical Care Protocols. Oakland Mercy Hospital is a Level IV Trauma Center, which means it has demonstrated an ability to provide advanced trauma life support (ATLS) prior to transfer of patients to a higher level trauma center. Oakland Mercy Hospital provides evaluation, stabilization, and diagnostic capabilities for injured patients and has a transfer agreement in place for patients requiring more comprehensive care at a Level I or Level II Trauma Center.
As part of a network that includes Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, a Level II Trauma Center, Oakland Mercy Hospital has the advantage of direct communication with multiple physicians in varying disciplines. As part of this network, Oakland Mercy Hospital has a direct link to a Level II Trauma Center. Mercy is our region's trauma center and provides comprehensive care for the severely injured patient with complex multi-system trauma.
Rapid Air transportation is available via Mercy Air Care for critically ill and injured patients who need acute care and the fastest possible transportation. Since the service was founded in May 1987, Mercy Air Care has logged more than 9,000 medical flights. The flight crew serving Mercy Air Care consists of critical care flight nurses and paramedics representing decades of emergency medical and trauma care experience.
